and what she has been up to

Sonja is specialised in digital games, youth media culture and phenomenon related. She has studied computer science (from business perspective) and digital media (technology and design). Sonja does game design, research and consulting.

EARLIER: She has worked as a researcher, developer, consultant, tv-host, programmer, visualist, concept designer, web designer... She has designed games for an amusement park, online, itv and mobile platforms. As a game researcher, Sonja has written articles about game design, sw dev. processes, girlgames, user groups, serious games, trends (roadmaps) and innovations in games. She was the co-editor for Mariosofia which was the first book about games in Finnish language. In 2006 Sonja was a part of a team (of 4) who got the first price in a digital service spin-off competition (mobile game platform utilizing variety of context data through the camera interface, GPS etc. They created a set of social minigames for the platform and a tool for the player to create/generate their own games).

CURRENTLY:
-Designing Flash-games for (mobile &) web at EGET
- Coordinating comparative study of Japanese, Korean and Finnish youngsters' media culture (2008-2009) at the Finnish Youth Research Network
- Working as a Finland chapter coordinator of IGDA Finland and organizing of "IGDA Finland Presentations" series
- Works as a board member of Nordic Game Program in 2008.
- Writing game reviews for Tilt.tv
- Doing some consulting (digital media services, youth cultures at the web, exergames, game design, "game lifestyle" etc.)
- Advisory board member of Toinen elämä project
- Pondering the future of the web at SITRAs KEV-network
- Writing her PhD
